Sigma Chi

Sigma Chi is founded on the principles of friendship, justice, and learning, and is guided by the values of courage, wisdom, integrity, high ambition, self-control, courtesy, and fidelity. The Zeta Upsilon Chapter strives to cultivate men of character who are committed to personal growth, ethical leadership, and service to others.

Chapter Overview & History

The Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi was chartered at William & Mary on April 21, 1968. Founded nationally on June 28, 1855, at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Sigma Chi is one of the largest fraternities in North America, with hundreds of active chapters and a membership of more than 350,000 initiated brothers.

At William & Mary, Sigma Chi brings together men who value strong brotherhood, academic achievement, and meaningful engagement with the campus and surrounding community. The chapter emphasizes intentional membership, leadership development, and lifelong connection, fostering a culture where members are challenged to grow and supported in doing so.

  Housing: Chapter house located at 740 Ukrop Way; new members are required to live in-house unless granted an exception

Philanthropy & Service

• The Zeta Upsilon Chapter proudly supports the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, raising funds and awareness to advance cancer research and patient care.
• In the 2024–2025 academic year, the chapter also supported the Williamsburg House of Mercy, donating both funds and food to assist local community members in need.
• 2024–2025 Impact: 343 service hours, $5,229 raised for the Huntsman Cancer Institute
  • Additional Contributions: $500 and 369 pounds of food donated to the Williamsburg House of Mercy

Membership Information

• Joining Requirements: Must meet Interfraternity Council (IFC) GPA eligibility requirements
• Chapter Dues: $700 per semester
