Chapter Overview & History
The Phi Beta Owl Club of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity was chartered at William & Mary on April 14, 1984. Founded nationally on November 24, 1833, Psi Upsilon is one of the oldest fraternities in North America, with a longstanding tradition of intellectual engagement and brotherhood. At William & Mary, Psi U (as it is commonly known) brings together undergraduate students in good standing who value lifelong friendship, personal responsibility, and service.
The chapter emphasizes academic support, co-curricular learning, and character development, preparing members to become thoughtful leaders and engaged citizens. Psi Upsilon brothers strive to uphold responsible social conduct grounded in civility and courtesy, while actively contributing to the greater Tidewater community through service to the college, the fraternity and society at large.

Member Testimonials
“I joined the chapter my freshman fall after attending a campfire rush event and immediately feeling a strong connection with the people. I realized how many values I shared with the chapter, and I have gained so much through spending time with the brothers—sociability, community, and kindness. Psi U was the highlight of my year, and I’m excited to see what we will do in the future.” — Samuel Sprague
“The most important thing I have found at Psi Upsilon is brotherhood. Coming from an all-boys high school, I deeply valued the bond I had with my classmates and struggled with losing that sense of community when I arrived at college. From my first membership event with Psi Upsilon, I felt welcomed and treated as an equal. Since then, I’ve found a true sense of brotherhood—men supporting one another, lifting each other up, and working together to better ourselves and our community.” — Patrick Ryan
