AI Innovation and Policy Council (AIIPC)

The AI Innovation and Policy Council (AIIPC) was convened by the Provost in early 2026 to guide William & Mary’s institutional response to the opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities associated with artificial intelligence (AI), including the use of generative AI (GenAI) across research, teaching, and operations.

Working Groups

  • AI Literacy and Innovation in Teaching & Learning Working Group

    Advances William & Mary’s approach to AI literacy and the thoughtful integration of AI into teaching and learning. Its initial focus is developing a scalable, interdisciplinary curricular model that equips undergraduate students to engage critically and effectively with AI.

  • Ethics Working Group

    Serves as a university-wide resource for navigating ethical questions and concerns related to AI. Identifies emerging issues, develops practical resources, and helps ensure that ethical reflection informs AI use across research, teaching, and operations.

  • Innovation in Research and Scholarship Working Group

    Advances the effective and responsible integration of AI into research and scholarship across disciplines. Identifies opportunities, emerging issues, and institutional needs while promoting practices consistent with academic integrity and disciplinary standards.
