Strategic Cultural Partnerships Faculty Fellows

The Office of Strategic Cultural Partnerships invites all W&M continuing faculty to apply for selection as Strategic Cultural Partnership Faculty Fellows during the 2022-23 academic year.

Strategic Cultural Partnerships’ mission is to build new and enhance existing cultural assets and collaborations, identify and promote opportunities to sustain and reinterpret William & Mary’s historical and cultural resources, increase the visibility and impact of the university's cultural projects and programs, and promote these initiatives at the local, state, national, and international level. We seek proposals for faculty projects that will advance this mission and contribute to advancing the strategic goals of Vision 2026. Particular priorities at this time include projects that will:

  • Expand research and engagement related to the W&M Bray School Lab and the larger Williamsburg Bray School Initiative (stories and legacies of Bray School students, African American culture and legacy in Williamsburg, the history of African American education, history-informed and descendant-generated dialogue about racial equity, Virginia’s Rosenwald Schools, etc.);
  • Create new educational opportunities for K-12 teachers, W&M undergraduate and graduate students, and community cohorts;
  • Create new and expand existing initiatives with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation;
  • Contribute to the 2023 commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Brafferton Indian School and advance research, programming, and relationships with tribal communities;
  • Contribute to the 2026 commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and help position Williamsburg as a hub for this significant moment.

Project deliverables will include public dissemination in some form, such as a conference presentation, publication, curricular unit, grant proposal, etc. It is anticipated that between 3-5 Faculty Fellows will be selected during this inaugural round; each will receive a stipend of $5,000 at the conclusion of Spring 2023.
