Law School Honor Council

About the Law School Honor Council

The Honor Code at the Law School reflects the values of the Law School community, including those of academic integrity, personal integrity, and personal and professional responsibility. The Honor Council is composed of student representatives from the 1L, 2L, 3L, and LL.M. classes that enforce the Honor Code. The Council has an Executive Board comprised of a Chair, two Deputy Chairs, and a Secretary. Moreover, the Honor Council maintains three committees focused on 1L/LL.M. outreach, ongoing education for the student body, and Student Bar Association (SBA) elections. Each committee is described in detail below.

Members are responsible for investigating and determining responsibility for potential Honor Code violations that are brought to the attention of the Council. Honor Council members have a duty to maintain confidentiality in all Honor proceedings and to treat all participants in Honor proceedings fairly and equitably.

The Honor Process

For a detailed outline of the Honor Process, please refer to the 2025-2026 Student Policy Handbook

If you have questions about the process, filing a report, or anything related to the Honor Council, please reach out to the Chair at lawhonorcouncil@wm.edu. Please note that reaching out with questions about potential Honor Code violations is informal and does not begin a formal process unless the Reporting Party chooses to proceed.

The 2025-2026 Honor Council

Meet the Executive Board!

Sarah Beaube, Chair
Sarah Beaube, Chair

Hi! My name is Sarah Beaube, and I am a 3L from Birmingham, Alabama. I graduated from Washington & Lee University, where I was first introduced to a Honor Code and Honor System. As Chair of this year’s Council, my goal is to cultivate an approachable environment at the Law School—one where questions are encouraged and the rules and guidelines of the Honor Code are clear and accessible. Aside from involvement in the Honor Council, I am an Articles Editor for the William and Mary Law Review, a Dean’s Associate, and a member of the Business Law Society. After graduation, I will be joining McGuireWoods’ office in Charlotte as a Corporate Associate. A fun fact about me is that I hiked Tour du Mont Blanc the summer before beginning 1L!

Sophie Tully
Sophie Tully, Deputy Chair

Hi! My name is Sophie Tully, and I am a 3L from Midlothian, Virginia. I went to undergrad at University of Lynchburg, where I studied philosophy and played softball. I look forward to serving the community of trust this year and continuing to cultivate a supportive and caring law school community. Outside the Council, I serve as Managing Editor of the William & Mary Bill of Right Journal and Vice President of Barristers’ Softball Council. I will be joining Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Richmond Office after graduation. A fun fact about me is that I’ve played seven different W&M intramural sports throughout my time at the law school!

Trey Rogers
Trey Rogers, Deputy Chair

Hi! My name is Trey Rogers, and I am a 3L from Camarillo, California. I went to undergrad at Virginia Tech, where I studied biochemistry and philosophy. I am very excited to continue serving on the Honor Council this year. Outside of the Council, I serve as the Chief Justice for William and Mary Law’s Moot Court team, as well as Articles Editor for the William & Mary Bill of Rights Journal. I will be joining Blankingship & Keith after graduation. A fun (and embarrassing) fact about me is that I was homeschooled until I was halfway through high school.

Breanca White
Breanca White, Secretary

Hi! My name is Breanca White, and I am a 2L from the Hampton Roads area. I am double Tribe! I graduated from William & Mary in 2021. After graduation, I spent a few years in Richmond, Virginia, working in public service. As secretary, I hope to increase the council’s visibility via social media! Outside of the Honor Council, I serve as President of the Black Law Students’ Association and Co-Logistics Counsel of the National Trial Team. I am also a Legal Practice Fellow, Torts Teaching Assistant, and Dean’s Associate. I spent my 1L summer with Hunton Andrews Kurth in their Richmond office and will be returning for 2L summer. A fun fact about me is that I have 3 pets: a cat, a dog, and a bunny!

About the Committees

1L/LL.M. Committee

Cecelia Tate, 1L/LL.M. Committee Chair

The 1L/LL.M. Committee helps incoming William & Mary Law students transition into law school and connect with the Honor Council. One of its most popular events is the 1L/LL.M. outlining session, which prepares students for exam season. Whether offering academic support or serving as a friendly resource, the Committee is dedicated to giving new students the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

Continuing Education Committee
Harris Burton, Continuing Education Committee Chair

The Continuing Education Committee (CEC) works to connect the Honor Council and W&M Law’s faculty and students. Our signature event is the Golden Gavel Awards which honors students, faculty, and staff who go the extra mile to help others and make the W&M community truly great. The CEC strives to keep students and faculty connected and invested in our Honor Council's mission through educational and social events throughout the school year.

Honor Elections Committee
Sebastian Santillo, Honor Elections Committee Chair

The Honor Elections Committee (HEC) oversees all SBA elections.  We host information sessions for potential candidates, run candidate forums, monitor campaigning, and count ballots. 1L and LL.M. Representative elections are held within the first 4-6 weeks of the fall semester, Executive Council elections are held in February, and Diversity Chair and 2L, 3L, and LL.M. Representative elections are held 2 weeks after the Executive Council elections. The HEC’s goal is to ensure that elections run smoothly, thereby maintaining a fair democratic process.
