Advice for Students Regarding AI

Determining Whether Generative AI is Permitted

The use of unauthorized resources to complete academic work is a violation of the Honor Code. Each individual instructor can establish policies applicable to academic work in their courses. Therefore, students should carefully review the course syllabus and assignment instructions in every course and, if unsure about whether generative AI is permitted, ask the instructor.

Instructors may permit generative AI in some situations, but not others. When in doubt, it is best practice to avoid the use of AI or ask for explicit instructor approval. Unless specifically permitted by the instructor, students should assume generative AI is unauthorized.
