Mentoring Programming

Mentoring programs provide a variety of benefits for students that include higher self-esteem, confidence, and growing stronger peer and family relationships. William & Mary mentoring volunteers strive to form meaningful connections with their mentees to help ignite possibility and empower young people. Building relationships through fun and engaging bonding activities helps to create a path for young students and their dreams. Sessions are at least once a week during or after school for one hour.

Weekly Attendance

As a mentor, you will be building a relationship with your paired mentee at least one hour each week through bonding activities, facilitating open communication, and providing a safe space to learn and grow together. Consistent, on-time weekly attendance is critical to our relationships with schools, students, and families. In the case of illness/family emergency, you must inform their team leaders in advance.

You will be able to gain a deeper understanding of young people and create new, positive relationships with a student to help them grow. In addition, you are also expected to follow an evidence-based activity plan that benefits and accommodates your mentee.

Training & Issue Education

In addition to onboarding trainings for new members, you will have to attend one additional training for Mentoring per semester. You must also attend one issue education per semester.

Reflection Sessions

During the semester there will be 3-4 reflection sessions (one hour) with your group. Either the Mentoring Coordinator or the Team Leads will run these meetings.
