Connect your alternative break experience to local issues and deepen your active citizenship with a Branch Out Reorientation grant. These grants of up to $1,000 are open to students who have participated in any Branch Out Alternative Break, and applications submitted by multiple breakers are encouraged.

Groups or Individual Applications
You may apply for grants as individuals or as groups. Some alternative break teams may choose to apply for funding together. Because social change happens most effectively when people work together, we prioritize group projects (even if just one member was a former breaker).
Timeline and Selection Process
Applications are accepted year-round, on a rolling basis. The selection committee will respond to applications within four weeks.
Projects may take place during the school year, school breaks, or both. Funding may support up to a year of community engagement.
Amount and Use of Funds
You may request any amount up to $1000 for each project.
Funds may be used for the following purposes:
supplies and project needs
for travel costs during local volunteering
to defray living expenses while volunteering full-time
Selection Criteria
Grants are awarded only to complete application based on:
Positive impact on the community
Positive impact on students
Project's use of power of groups
Degree of student financial need
Connection to alternative break experience
Preference is given to applications that indicate that grant funds will go directly to the community or project. International projects will not be funded.
Requirements
All awardees must submit an evaluation of their experience, due September 1 for summer break projects and April 1 for year-round and other projects. Guidelines for that evaluation will be included with your award information.
Reorientation Grant Awards are subject to tax, and must be reported as taxable income to the IRS.
Reorientation Grants will not fund service that takes place during scheduled finals.
Recipients must return to campus at William & Mary for at least one semester after receiving a Reorientation Grant.
Service that involves religious instruction or proselytizing will not be funded, but service as part of a faith-based organization that does not involve the above activities is acceptable
