Charter Day 2019 - Parking Notice

Final Charter Day reminder, beginning this evening there will be a variety of special events taking place that will impact parking on campus. Tomorrow and Friday being the most intense days. Notable for this year are the inaugural events for Pres. Rowe and the re-investiture of Chancellor Gates. Included below is an overview of areas that will be impacted as well as parking alternatives to help minimize the disruptions between Feb 6-8, 2019.  We recommend that you allow extra time to find parking and discourage moving  around campus during these times. The WATA Green Line will be running as scheduled from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm and may be used to facilitate movement around campus. Thank you for your patience as we welcome our visitors to campus.

 Wednesday, Feb 6th

  • BOV meetings in Blow Hall start at 2:30 pm, standard parking allocation in Dawson Circle (24 Spaces) will be in-place through 6:00 pm

 Thursday, Feb 7th:       

  • Compton Lot offline @ 7:00 am - Block Party Prep
  • School of Ed lots 6 & 7 will be unavailable from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm for the WMF & Joint Board meetings
  • As the day goes on, general parking demand will increase in the Stadium, Old Dominion, and James Blair Lots to compensate for the displacement from these areas. 
  • Additional spaces have been leased and will be available for F/S to park at the First Baptist Church Lot on Scotland Street. Since Alumni House is offline, there are F/S and by permit spaces on College Terrace and Harrison Ave also available for use daily.
  • Morton and PBK Lots:  Will be cleared at 5 pm, for an evening function in Swem. 
    • (Added) To compensate for displacement on the south side of campus the City has allowed us to open a portion of parking curbside along Jamestown Rd from the PBK Circle to the entrance to the Morton Lot.
  • James Blair Dr will be cleared at 5:00 pm for an event in the President's House.
Friday, Feb 8th : Parking assets all over campus will be stressed as we make space for the Inaugural and Charter Day events.
  • School of Ed Lots 7 - 50 spaces from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm 
  • As the day goes on, general parking demand will again increase in the Stadium, Old Dominion, and James Blair Lots from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm to compensate for the displacement from these areas. 
  • Additional spaces have been leased and will be available for F/S to park at the First Baptist Church Lot on Scotland Street. Since Alumni House is offline, there are available F/S and by permit spaces on College Terrace and Harrison Ave available for use daily.
  • Morton Lot: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm – 20 spaces will be reserved for the Symposia
    • (Added) To compensate for displacement on the south side of campus the City has allowed us to open a portion of parking curbside along Jamestown Rd from the PBK Circle to the entrance to the Morton Lot.
  • Compton Lot remains offline through 9:00 pm 
  • Upper Kaplan Arena Lot will be cleared at 10:00 am and set aside for VIP Parking
    • (Added) Students with “Restricted Use Decals” may park after 5 pm Thursday along the fence line on McClurg Avenue, on Harrison Avenue (behind Green and Gold Village) or at the School of Education Lots 1 through 3.
  • The lower Kaplan Arena Lot is designated for General Guest Parking
ROAD CLOSURES
  • Starting at 12:00 pm Compton Dr @ Monticello Ave will be restricted to inbound event traffic only, through traffic will not be permitted and will be routed around campus to Richmond Rd 
  • Brooks St will be closed to parking from Ukrop Way around to Compton Dr. 12:00 – 8:30 pm to accommodate ADA guests, dignitaries, platform party members and media attending the main ceremonies in Kaplan Arena. 
  • The second half of Brooks St will be set as a one-way inbound from Richmond Rd to Compton Dr. for event guests and Shuttles Only. All others should enter at Dillard Ave.
Saturday, Feb 9th:
  • Stadium & Old Dominion Lots are reserved from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm for the Alumni Board meeting, Medallion Ceremony & Reception, as well as the President's Symposia
