Two William & Mary history professors were featured this weekend on C-Span’s American History TV.
One of C-Span’s signature networks, American History TV offers an in-depth look at American history through lectures, panel discussions and special events. The programs fill C-Span3’s weekend broadcast schedule. Scott R. Nelson, Legum Professor of History and Andrew Fisher, associate professor of history appeared in separate broadcasts on Sat., Dec. 15 and Sun. Dec. 16.
Fisher appeared on the network’s “Lectures in History” series. The episode aired at 8 p.m. and midnight Dec. 15 and at 1 p.m. Dec. 16. It is now available for viewing on C-Span’s website. C-Span came to campus in October to film a lecture on the progressive conservative movement in the professors "American West" class. Fisher’s research and teaching interests focus on modern Native American history, environmental history, and the American West. He also teaches in the university’s environmental sciences and policy program. The "American West" course is cross-listed.
Nelson was featured Dec. 16 at 9:40 a.m., 8:40 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. The show was a broadcast of a lecture hosted by the Virginia Historical Society earlier this fall on the history of American financial panics. Nelson is the author of the recently released, “A Nation of Deadbeats: The Uncommon History of America’s Financial Panics.” A 19th century U.S. historian, Nelson took a look at the country’s early financial panics in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. He teaches various courses on U.S. and southern history. This show may also be viewed online.
