Senator Warner to speak at Law School's graduation

U.S. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia will deliver the commencement address at William & Mary Law School’s graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 15. Warner served as Virginia’s governor from 2002 to 2006 and was elected to the Senate in 2008.
The Law School ceremony, which will be held at the College of William & Mary’s Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre, begins at 2:30 p.m. Degrees will be awarded to approximately 220 students in the J.D. and LL.M. programs. Seating will be limited to graduates and their guests.
2010 -11 Student Bar Association President Tamar Jones ’11 said her classmates were honored that Warner accepted their invitation to speak. "Mark Warner’s commitment to public service as a governor and senator is inspiring,” said Jones. “He is a wonderful example to graduates of how you can use your legal education to serve the greater good of the community, state, and nation.”
Warner serves on numerous Senate committees, including the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, and the Committee on the Budget. He recently helped organize pro bono assistance from technology companies in northern Virginia to help Arlington National Cemetery modernize its record-keeping system. A graduate of The George Washington University and Harvard Law School, Warner was a co-founder of Nextel, a cellular phone company, early in his career.
Warner visited the Law School in November 2010 to speak at a Veterans Day ceremony celebrating the naming of the Law School’s Lewis B. Puller, Jr. Veterans Benefits Clinic.
