‘Give from the heart’: CVC campaign begins

The annual Combined Virginia Campaign kicked off at William & Mary Thursday with a chance to give – and enjoy a free lunch – in Trinkle Hall.
Dozens of the College’s faculty and staff turned out for the “Harvesting Good(s)”event, which aims to promote giving to the hundreds of charities and non-profit organizations that are registered with the campaign.
Participants at the event brought canned goods to donate to the local non-profit FISH and signed donation pledge forms. Representatives from several of the local organizations that benefit from the CVC – including Grove Christian Outreach Center and Housing Partnerships – were also on hand to promote their work and answer questions.
Maralyn Carr, a project documents manager for facilities planning design and construction, was one of those who enjoyed the free hot dogs, pumpkin cookies and hot cider that were available at the event. But she was there for much more than free food; she was there to donate to a cause that hits close to home for her.
“Alzheimer’s runs in my family, and I always designate money for that,” she said. “I think it’s a good cause.”
Campaign organizers hope that many others in the William & Mary community think so, too.
In a message sent to the William & Mary community on Oct. 4, the 2011 CVC committee said they hope to have at least 319 members of the College community contribute this year.
“We chose this number to commemorate 319 years of William & Mary,” the message said.
