W&M launches new events system

A new online W&M Events system launching March 1 will help both the campus community and the public keep abreast of all the exciting opportunities the university has to offer year-round. There are nearly 400 events already live in W&M Events.
The new events system, which can be found at events.wm.edu, was created by William & Mary’s Office of Creative Services. Previously, events were listed in a wide variety of calendars across the campus. The new system allows for department-specific calendars but also aggregates events from the nearly 150 department calendars.
“For the first time in 318 years, the W&M community can go to one website on any given day and find out what’s going on,” said Susan T. Evans, director of creative services. “W&M Events is also a comprehensive resource for prospective students, tourists, and the Williamsburg area.”
The new system includes several top-level calendars, including Academics & Research, Cultural Arts, Service, Sports & Leisure and University Life. These six calendars include events from across the campus that are determined to be applicable to a wide audience. The W&M Events calendar, which is the first calendar to appear when accessing the site, includes the events from all of the top-level calendars.
Events may also be found under calendars for Tribe Athletics, Arts & Sciences, the Law School, the Mason School of Business, the School of Education and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
A clickable calendar graphic allows users to browse for events on specific days within each calendar, and an advanced search allows users to search using keywords, date ranges, and event types.
Anyone with a William & Mary user id and password may submit events to W&M Events by clicking on the sign-in button at the top, right-hand corner of events.wm.edu. Along with event information, users may enhance an event listing by linking to photos. After entering the details of your event, users will "recommend" to the available calendars. Submitted events are reviewed and moderated before appearing on calendars in W&M Events. Events on the top-level calendars are related to or sponsored by William & Mary.
