Moran wins National Championship road race

Moran ran 28:19 to finish 10th overall, and was the top American finisher, which enabled him to claim the national title. The two closest competitors for the national crown were 15th and 19th overall, in 28:29 and 28:46.
Moran was in the chase pack through the early parts of the race, before putting on a burst at the halfway point to rejoin the leaders. Although the top runners were able to regain a gap, Moran remained at the forefront and steadily pulled away over the final mile to win and claim $10,000 in prize money.
Sunday's performance puts an outstanding cap on a heady 10 days for the Tribe assistant coach and current W&M grad student. On June 24, Moran led for much of the final mile at the USAT&F National Track Championships 10,000m, ultimately finishing second for his best-ever track showing at the national level.
An MBA student in the Mason School of Business, Moran was the runner-up at 10,000m at the recent U.S. National Track Championship. He also had a top finish at the 2008 Olympic Trials, when he took fourth in the 10,000m. While running for the Tribe from 2000-05, he was a four-time All-American, and last year was named as one of the Colonial Athletic Association's 25 greatest athletes in both men's track and field and cross-country.
Since finishing his college career, Moran has been active in coaching both the men's and women's teams for W&M, and has been a five-time member of Team USA. In 2007, he won the 5,000m gold medal at the Pan-American Games, setting the meet record in the process. In 2006 and 2008, he was a member of the U.S. contingent in the Chiba Ekiden Relay, and he ran at the World Cross-Country Championships in both 2008 and 2009.
