Flat Hat on blogger's best college newspapers list

A blogger for the website "College Media Matters" recently made his own suggested improvements to The Princeton Review's list of top college newspapers, naming William & Mary's The Flat Hat as one of the best.

Dan Reimold, a college journalism scholar, said that he found the latest rankings of best college newspapers "solid, but incomplete." Therefore, he added 15 colleges that -- in his opinion --should have made the cut.

Other college newspapers on Reimold's list are The Collegiate Times from Virginia Tech, and The Daily Californian from The University of California, Berkeley.

Editor-in-chief of The Flat Hat, Mike Crump ‘11, was initially shocked about the paper being included on the list because most of those included are daily papers.

"Obviously we do not have the resources for that, but for us to be compared to papers of that caliber is a really nice boost," Crump said.
According to its website, College Media Matters "aims to tell the story of modern college media." It is part of the "blogrolls" for the Huffington Post's College and the Washington Post's Campus Overload blogs.

William & Mary's faculty, libraries and undergraduate happiness level were lauded earlier this month in the Princeton Review's annual college guide. The College scored 12th place in the "happiest students" category and eighth place for both "professors get high marks" and "best college library."  In addition, the College's "green rating" climbed from 90 last year to 93 this year.
