Scott Reynolds Nelson's Steel Drivin' Man: John Henry, the Untold Story of an American Legend won
the 2007 Merle Curti Prize from the Organization of American Historians
for the best book in U.S. social and cultural history. The committee
found the book's writing "elegant" and the research "astonishing." Steel Drivin' Man is
also one of three finalists for the National Award for Arts Writing.
And Bruce Springsteen calls it "a tribute and requiem to the real steel
drivin' men who built this country." Academics, artists, and Bruce. Who
knew?
