Melvin Ely awarded American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship

Melvin Ely has been awarded an American Council of Learned Societies
Fellowship. The award will allow him to spend the whole of academic
year 2007-2008 working on his next book, A Horrible Intimacy: Whites and Enslaved Blacks in Old Virginia.
"The competition for these fellowships was very rigorous," the ACLS
announced, "with 1017 eligible applications for 65 awards."
