American Indians

All of Williamsburg, including William & Mary, sits on ground originally claimed by Native populations. The history of the university is interwoven with these populations; its earliest iteration included the Indian School in temporary quarters, then the Wren Building and finally, the Brafferton. William & Mary's process of discovery and reconciliation includes ongoing efforts to understand and acknowledge its history with Virginia's native peoples.
