Weddings

There is not a 4-year waitlist!

Our record for short lead time on booking a wedding is 24 hours before the ceremony, so don’t believe everything you hear!

Ever since October 7, 1860, when Mr. Dulany Ball of Fairfax County, Virginia, and Miss Sallie Wright of Williamsburg were joined in marriage “in the old Chapel of Wm. & Mary College,” the Wren Chapel has been a favorite wedding site for members of the William & Mary family. Literally thousands of couples have pledged their troth in the well-loved chapel of the Sir Christopher Wren Building.

Eligibility

The Wren Chapel may be reserved for the weddings of William & Mary students, alumni, current faculty and staff, and the children of anyone in those groups. It is not necessary for both the bride and the groom to have a William & Mary affiliation.

Alumni are defined as those who have successfully completed at least one semester in a degree-granting program at William & Mary. The Wren Chapel is open to people of all faiths.

Booking your wedding

University Events is responsible for booking all weddings in the Wren Building. Weddings may be booked on any day of the week. We reserve two hours for the ceremony and an hour the day before for a rehearsal. On Saturdays, weddings are booked in the following two-hour blocks:

  • 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

All activities relating to the wedding — decorating, seating of guests, the ceremony, photography, clean-up — must be accomplished within this two-hour period. The ceremony should be scheduled to begin at least a half hour into your reservation. At busy times of the year, other events may be scheduled immediately before or after your reserved time.
