The William & Mary Board of Visitors approved this statement on November 22, 2019. As required by the Code of Virginia, the mission component is subject to approval by the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia. SCHEV approved the new mission statement on January 7, 2020. The new statement will officially take effect 30 days following adjournment of the 2020 General Assembly session.
