Alumni Accounts
So you've graduated...now what?
When you graduate, your role at the university shifts from a student role to an alumni role. As alumni, you will maintain access to several services for a period of time after graduation. It's important to know that your W&M email account access will expire after 16 months and all associated data will be permanently deleted, therefore we do not recommend using it for anything personal.
You will receive a warning email to your Outlook email account around 42 days before the expiration of your student role along with a list of the services that are tied to it. We encourage you to update your information by logging in W&M’s online alumni portal my1693.com where you can also set your communication preferences, search the alumni directory, access resources for alumni and more.
Access to campus buildings, library services and your Zoom Pro account will expire on the day of Commencement.
Services lost eight months after graduation
- Blackboard
- Home Drive
- VPN
Services kept at the end of the eight month period
- Google Workspace
- Microsoft Office Productivity Tools, including OneDrive and Outlook
Services lost 16 months after graduation
ALL account services including but not limited to:
- Google Workspace
- Microsoft Office Productivity Tools, including OneDrive and Outlook
- Duo
- Banner Self-Service
Steps to take before your services expire
- If you haven’t already, we encourage you to update your contact information with the university by using W&M’s online alumni portal my1693.com so that we have a good alternate email account for you on record.
- In Banner, access your unofficial transcript and save/print your digital credentials before you lose access.
- Migrate your Drive data to another Google account - (Drive only). When starting the transfer process, it is helpful to login to the Google account that is receiving your files with an incognito window or a different browser.
- Download your account data - (All Google Services). This option is best for long term storage or to be used with another service.
- Add a personal email to personalinfo.wm.edu.
- Make sure you do not have any accounts tied to your W&M email account, like streaming services and bank accounts. We also strongly recommend not using your W&M email for things like job and graduate school applications.
