Dennis Alcides Velazco Smith received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1995 and his Ph.D. in Foreign Affairs from The University of Virginia in 2007. His research interests include: strategic studies, coercion, and regime change. In addition to teaching in the Department of Government and International Relations Program, he is co-director of William & Mary’s Project on International Peace and Security (PIPS). PIPS is an undergraduate think tank housed at the Global Research Institute, which aims to produce rigorous and original foreign policy analysis for the U.S. national security community.
Professor Smith teaches the following courses: Introduction to International Politics, International Security, Strategy and Winning War, Economics and National Security, and International Relations from a Disciplinary Perspective. He has been a member of the faculty since 2007.
