Departmental Honors

The Honors Program provides an opportunity to conduct an independent research project that will take place over an entire academic year under the supervision of a faculty advisor. It culminates in the completion of a thesis paper and an oral exam.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Honors program, you must have the preparation, ability, and motivation to complete the program. On a practical level, this means that you should have at least a 3.0 GPA by the end of your junior year, plus department approval.

How to Get Started

In the spring of your junior year, you should find a professor willing to serve as your honors advisor. Your honors advisor should be involved in research that is related to the topic you want to explore. This person could be, but does not have to be, your major advisor.

The Charles Centers administers the Honors Program. You will follow their process for applying to and completing the program. You can also visit their archive of Psychological Sciences Honors projects.

Thesis Submission

When you complete your Honors project, you will email a copy of your thesis to [[psychology, Psychological Sciences]]. You will also submit your thesis to Swem Library.
