About the Program
Are you interested in Japan? A major or minor in Japanese studies gives you the chance to explore that interest. You will gain linguistic and cultural fluency to provide expertise on Japanese culture and society. You will also learn valuable historical and social context as well as analytic skills applicable to many careers. Students often combine Japanese studies with a second major to bring geographical focus to studies in international relations, global studies, finance, anthropology, computer science and more.

Learn about Japan's Ghosts and Demons (JAPN 220), Japanese Video Games (JAPN 308), Japanese Cinema (JAPN 311) and Samurai: History and Myth (JAPN 211).*

Complete an independent research project on topics including literature, film, anime and game culture.

Japanese House (J-House)
Get immersed in Japanese culture in the J-House through social activities, conversation, movie nights and cooking events.

Study Abroad
Experience Japan through intensive summer, semester- and year-long programs.
Alumni Highlight
Hayley Snowden '19 graduated with a marketing major and Japanese studies minor. While on campus, she wrote for the student newspaper, The Flat Hat. Now, Snowden is a Senior Strategist at Wunderman Thompson Health in Washington, D.C.
