Faculty Retreat, May 14, 2013

Summary

Faculty from EVMS and W&M met to discuss and explore research collaborations across the institutions.

Full Description

The retreat featured:

  • Nationally renowned speakers from the Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science and AcademyHealth, the leading professional organization in health services research.
  • Remarks by a Sentara Healthcare representative on key delivery issues of interest to local providers and the types of data that may be used to examine them.
  • Opportunities to develop interdisciplinary, cross-institutional research relationships and information on applying for funding from the collaborative initiative.

This retreat was the first of several planned events to explore collaborative research and educational programs across Eastern Virginia Medical School and the College of William & Mary. These events are meant to propel a faculty-driven effort to evaluate collaborative possibilities. A key theme of this first retreat was collaborative research in health services research and health care delivery science; however, we encouraged faculty from all disciplines who are interested in cross-institutional research to attend.

The specific goals of the May 14 retreat were to stimulate discussions about possible research collaborations, to provide opportunities for networking and to encourage applications for small grants on promising collaborative research proposals.
