Landing Page

The Landing Page is a high-impact, visually engaging page type that offers a Super Banner that includes several image controls and text display options. There is no main content area, where the page title, breadcrumbs, page menu, center column and right column are typically included. All page content below the banner is added using rows.

Manager Support

This asset is only available to managers and is located in each school's _Root asset factory. Manager consultation is required for each use of this asset as many content factors must be considered:

  • Page title and banner text options for SEO and accessibility
  • Access to quality images and optimized file size to reduce impact on page load
  • Row content for key messages, professional appearance and navigation to deeper content
  • Careful page review across device sizes
Who can edit this page type?

Once the page has been created, any editor with write access to the folder will be able to edit some aspect of the page:

  • Standard editors can only edit the page title.
  • Trained row editors in your rows access group can also use the row chooser.
  • The Super Banner settings are only visible to managers.
Suggested Uses
  • As a landing page for a digital or print campaign
  • As a department, office or program homepage
  • As a topical landing page one level down from a site homepage
  • As a "microsite" homepage for a special event or special set of content within a broader site

Page Title Display
  • For default banner option: the page title is visually suppressed, but provided as the H1 for screen readers and search engine optimization. The "Department" field in your folder settings will continue to display in the banner area and serve as a link to the index page of that folder. For the most consistent use of elements across your site, this option is most appropriate when the department name and page title are the same, for example, as a homepage.
  • For Super Banner option: the page title displays prominently in the banner area, replacing the banner department info
Navigation Considerations

Without a page menu and breadcrumbs, care is needed in building the row-based content to ensure visitors can navigate to other content. If the page is a part of a broader site, the optional Umbrella Department link can be used to offer navigation up to the homepage.

Create a New Landing Page
  • Option 1: Create a New > Empty Folder at the desired location, then add a New > _Root > Landing Page
  • Option 2: Edit an existing index page, select the Configure tab and change the Content Type to Landing Page
Available Fields & Options
Basic Settings
  • Page Name: Required field; leave as index for menus and breadcrumbs to link properly.
  • Title: Required field; visually suppressed for default banners; displays in the Super Banner. If your folder is set to display department banner info, this page title will replace that in the Super Banner.
  • Summary: Does not display, but is used as the meta description.
  • Teaser: Optional; displays below the title in the Super Banner only.
  • Banner Type: Choose Default or Super. Default uses the standard banner behavior managed by editing the root folder.
Super Banner Settings
  • Image File: The preferred dimensions are 1920x1080 and minimum dimensions are 1390x940. Images should be optimized for the web by reducing file size to approximately 250 KB or less. Try Squoosh on your edited photos to reduce file size. Once placed on the page, the built-in gradient overlay will hide minor image imperfections.
  • Image Focal Point: Choose the option that best maintains the focal point of an image across screen sizes. Tip: Try them all. Select an option and submit to preview the page. Resize your browser to mimic various device sizes and select the option that works best.
  • Image Overlay: The default is Dark. Adjust the darkness as necessary to optimize readability of the Umbrella Department, Title, Teaser or Intro Text.
  • Umbrella Department: Option to include an organizational parent unit name above the title in the banner.
  • Umbrella Link: Enter the folder path of the department's homepage with a leading and trailing slash. For example, enter /offices/wellness/ if the umbrella page is https://www.wm.edu/offices/wellness/index.php.
  • Intro Text: Optional to display additional text under the title and teaser in the banner.
Tip: For best results, do not use all of the Super Banner text display options. Too much text leads to a cluttered presentation, making the content hard to read.
Thumbnail Images Settings
  • Social Media Thumbnail: Optional custom image for social media shares. Preferred dimensions are 1200x628. and minimum dimensions are 484x252.
