Advisory Board

The GRI Advisory Board is a diverse group of individuals united by a passion for GRI and a purpose to enhance GRI's philanthropic donor base, scale research activities, connect GRI to external partners, and contribute substantive expertise and advice to improve the Institute’s operations, plans and initiatives. 

The Advisory Board brings incredible experience across different sectors and disciplines, and their support enables more opportunities for students to participate in life-changing research with real-world impact and more global interdisciplinary programs. GRI convened its inaugural Advisory Board in October 2023.

 

Layla Abi-Falah

Layla Abi-Falah is an international human rights lawyer and associate human rights officer with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Abi-Falah has been dedicated to an international human rights career for over a decade, beginning as a research assistant and fellow on various GRI research labs, including AidData, Africa Research Center and PIPS. Armed with the experience and tools gained at GRI, Abi-Falah went on to support international law projects across the world, including: the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD); REDRESS; Syria Justice & Accountability Centre, and the Office of the Prosecutor at UN IRMCT.

 
Tim Carroll

Timothy Carroll is an '87 graduate from William and Mary with a degree in International Relations. He currently leads the Azure Weather and Climate Portfolio for Microsoft Corporation. Over a 20 year technology career, Tim has led large global organizations and navigated start-ups to successful exits. Equally important roles include husband, father, coach, cubmaster, board member and cook.

 

 
Tim Dunn

Tim Dunn, William & Mary class of '83 with a BA in International Relations. He is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Terra Alpha Investments, a sustainable public equities asset management firm based in Washington, DC. He currently also serves on the Virginia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and on the Leadership Councils of the World Resources Institute and EcoAmerica. 
 

 
Frances C. Engoron

For the last twelve years, Fran Engoron has been a Managing Director of Golden Seeds, LLP, a large angel investment network devoted to investing in and supporting women entrepreneurs. She also serves as an independent consultant and coach, especially to executive women. Fran spent 27+ years as a client consultant and Partner at Price Waterhouse and PwC, one of the world’s largest global professional services firms. 

 

 

John Greenwood

John Greenwood is head of the Latin America Financing Group and head of Project, Infrastructure and Principal Finance at Goldman Sachs. He oversees the firm’s origination, structuring and risk management activities for structured and project finance transactions across the climate transition, energy, infrastructure, power and quasi- sovereign sectors. John serves as co-chair of the Investment Banking Sustainable Solutions Council, which supports the business's sustainability efforts including decarbonization solutions for corporate clients. 

 

Jennifer Tepper Mackesy

Jennifer Tepper Mackesy graduated from William & Mary in 1991 with a BBA in Marketing and a Minor in Fine Arts. She was a member of the Women’s Varsity Soccer Team, a top ranked program at the time. Jennifer spent ten years in the retail and fashion industry as a Vice President at Lord & Taylor. After leaving her career to stay home and raise her two boys, she then focused her energies on non-profit work, and her board work has included US Squash (the National Governing Body), The William & Mary Foundation, where she chairs the Athletics sub-committee, Graham Windham, the oldest foster care agency in the country, and several international organizations focused on girls in Africa- LEAD & Mainsprings.



Tom McInerney

Tom McInerney has been Genworth Financial, Inc.’s President and Chief Executive Officer and a director since January 2013. Before joining the company, Tom served as a Senior Advisor to the Boston Consulting Group, and he spent more than 30 years as a senior executive at Aetna, Inc. and ING Group. Tom also serves on several other not-for-profit boards including United Way Worldwide. 

 


Patricia (Pat) Austria Ramsey

Pat Austria Ramsey is the Director of Country Programs and Innovation at the Institute for State Effectiveness, where she manages the Institute’s global portfolio and country programs, as well as the Data and Digital practice. In this capacity, she promotes digital transformation and evidence-informed policymaking in post-conflict and post-crisis contexts. Prior to ISE, Pat worked at the World Bank’s Governance Global Practice, Poverty Reduction Unit, and the World Bank Innovation practice. In addition to these roles, she has worked at Development Gateway, AidData and the UN World Food Programme on data for development and public sector innovation issues.



Corey Shull

Corey Shull is a Partner and co-founder of Durable who joined the firm at its inception in 2019. Corey leads Durable’s private investment efforts and covers technology, internet and media companies. Prior to Durable, he served as a Vice President of T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. (“T. Rowe”) where he served as an equity Research Analyst following technology, media, and internet companies. He also served as Vice President and Investment Advisory Committee Member of the Communications & Technology and New Horizons Funds. Corey has 16 years of investment experience. As an undergraduate at William & Mary, Corey worked for AidData, conducting field research in Belgium.



Will Smith

William Smith is a social entrepreneur based in the United States. He has founded or co-founded three impactful nonprofits and one social enterprise across the globe, including initiatives in the United States, Liberia, and Morocco. With a strong foundation in education, sports for development, social justice, and sustainability, Will has dedicated over a decade to empowering youth and driving social change. He is the Founder & CEO of Charter Oak Advisory and sits on the Boards of LEAD Edu, LEAD Monrovia Football Academy, and LEAD Morocco. As an undergraduate at William & Mary, Will conducted research with GRI's Africa Research Center. 

 
Todd Stottlemeyer

Todd Stottlemeyer is the CEO and a Board Member at Acentra Health, a private equity backed healthcare technology solutions and services company. He led the successful sale of CNSI to The Carlyle Group and the acquisition of and merger with Kepro. Today, the combined company, now Acentra Health, employs approximately 3,000 people and operates across the U.S. and in India. He is a Venture Fellow at Blue Delta Capital Partners, a growth venture capital firm focused on partnering with and investing in promising companies that are delivering technology-enabled solutions and services to the U.S. Federal Government.
