Saylor Barnes '26

Saylor Barnes is a William & Mary sophomore from Chesapeake, Virginia. She is majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Social Problems, Policy & Justice and minoring in Educational Studies on the Policy & Equity track. In the future, she hopes to earn her Masters in Social Work and eventually have the opportunity to work for a non-profit organization. On campus, she works with the Voter Engagement Community to encourage students to make their voices heard through the power of democracy. She is also a member of VOX which is a club committed to supporting women’s rights and access to healthcare, as well as Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity. From a young age, Saylor has had an interest in politics and government due to her family’s efforts to educate their kids on such topics and her involvement with Speech & Debate in high school. She is excited to have a hands-on experience enacting positive change in our country.

Joshua Chin '27

Joshua Chin is a freshman from Houston, Texas. He is a prospective Government major and hopes to one day return to the great state of Texas to run for public office. On campus, Joshua is involved with WM InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Baptist Collegiate Ministries and serves in Residence Life on the DuPont Community Council and as the current Convention Coordinator in Training for the Residence Hall Association. Moreover, Joshua enjoys sketching, cooking, hanging out with friends, and is currently learning to crochet. Joshua is ecstatic to spend time in the heart of American Politics and is thrilled to see what the American Politics Institute holds for him!

Addison Dempsey '26

Addison Dempsey is a Sophomore from Fredericksburg, Virginia majoring in Government and minoring in Data Science. She works as a writing center consultant, a research assistant with the Global Research Institute, and as an Intern for the Project on International Peace and Security. Through her work she has been involved with projects spanning from Latin American transitional justice to African development finance. In her free time she enjoys reading books, listening to fictional podcasts, and watching baseball with her friends. In D.C., Addison hopes to apply her government education to further the rights of all Americans.

Madeleine Hess '27

Madeleine Hess is a rising sophomore at William and Mary with a projected major in History with a minor in Philosophy. She finds enjoyment reading, listening to history podcasts, and playing tennis. She has previous campaign experience from her home state of Pennsylvania and is excited to apply her knowledge to new things! She has been involved with a politically charged environment for most of her adolescence as her family owns and operates two independent bookstores and wears their opinions loud and clear. At William and Mary she is a part of The Women’s Network, History Club, Classics Club, and Club Tennis. Additionally she is a member of Chi Omega and works in Colonial Williamsburg. Maddie is most excited to gain new life experiences and learn more about the way modern politics is shaping our society and world at large.

Spencer is a rising junior at the College. He is highly interested in subjects of government, economics, history, and international relations. At William & Mary, they are studying International Relations and Data Science. Additionally, Spencer serves in the Student Assembly, conducts research, participates in various political discussion organizations, works an on-campus job, and plays music. They grew up moving around a lot, and spent a significant amount of that time in Europe. One day, Spencer hopes to serve in the US Federal government.

Jimmy Kurtz is a rising junior at the College of William & Mary and a graduate from Radnor Senior High School in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Jimmy is currently pursuing a major in Government. On Campus he works for the WIlliam and Mary office of admissions as a tour guide, serves his social fraternity Kappa Alpha as its treasurer and executive board member, and is also involved in Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. He enjoys running and playing tennis in his free time. After college he hopes to pursue the pre-law track. Jimmy is excited for this summer in the DC summer institute and hopes to work in a politically involved internship!

Mia Monahon is a sophomore from Swedesboro, New Jersey and is double majoring in Government and Economics. She has previous experience interning in Congressman Donald Norcross’ District Office and hopes to work in government in the future. On campus, Mia is involved in the Undergraduate Honor Council, the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, the William & Mary Innocence Club, and the Civic & Community Engagement Volunteering Program. Mia is excited to spend the upcoming summer in DC to learn more about representation in American democracy and apply what she learns through her internship!

Maxwell Nichols '26

Max is part of W&M's class of '26 and plans to major in Finance. He grew up overseas in Russia, Belgium, Qatar, and Ukraine. He is a native French and Russian speaker. Currently, Max works for the Institute for Integrative Conservation at W&M as their communications assistant and previously interned at law firm Miller Canfield and worked at the US Embassy of Kyiv in summer 2021. In his free time, Max enjoys listening to music, running, playing with his dog, and traveling. He looks forward to being part of the Representation in American Democracy Institute to learn more about the world of politics in D.C. and hopes to engage in meaningful work related to it.

Harry Rohne is a sophomore at William & Mary hailing from New York City. With particular interests in United States history and its relation to the political system, and as a Government major, Harry is looking forward to spending his summer in DC and experiencing living in a different metropolitan area, seeing the American political system in action. As a Hispanic Studies minor, he also has a knack for languages and enjoys broadening his horizons by studying film and literature in Spanish. On campus, Harry is a member of Tribe Sailing, the photographer for the Mint Theatre Company, and the current Secretary of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

Emily Rosenthal (She/Her) is a sophomore at William & Mary from Lexington, Massachusetts. She is pursuing a double major in Public Policy and Data Science and hopes to combine the two fields in her future career. She recently completed the Civic Leadership Program at W&M where she spent a year engaging with communities and creating positive social change alongside 14 other students. Emily has been working to better the communities she is a part of for as long as she can remember and values the time she gets to spend participating in community service and civic engagement opportunities. Outside the classroom, Emily is Vice President of the Club Gymnastics team and is a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and WM Hillel. She is excited to explore the vast opportunities DC has to offer and gaining a better understanding of how different political entities interact and influence each other. She cannot wait to get to DC and learn from a hands-on experience.
