Biking with the Birds ride with the bird club

Date: Saturday April 15th from 9:30AM to 12PM .

We have coordinated with the bird club and there is much interest. As for the route, we will have vans availabe to drive from Sadler Terrace out to Jamestown Settlement parking lot and then ride back towards the Powhatan Creek Trail to do some birdwatching.

20th Annual Pedal the Parkway

Date: Saturday May 6th 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Cycle, run or hike along the shores of the scenic James River from Jamestown to Williamsburg, or vice versa. This event is FREE and will be held rain or shine. All participants must register and all cyclists must wear helmets. Eight miles of empty, car-free pavement on the Colonial Parkway will allow you to start at your own time, proceed at your own pace and enjoy refreshments at the midway point. A great event and safe way to discover the joys of road cycling. Smart Cycling

Date: Friday Apr 21st 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM and Saturday Apr 22nd 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location: 401 Lafayette Street, City of Williamsburg Municipal Building, 2nd Floor Conference Room 201

Smart Cycling is a fast-paced bicycling class that will give you the confidence to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail. You will learn how to fit your bike to your body, conduct bicycle safety checks, change gears shifting smoothly, and ride safely on area bike lanes and in traffic. Principles of traffic law, clothing and accessories, and group riding etiquette will also be covered.  On-bike instruction will include crash prevention and hazard avoidance techniques. Instruction will be both in the classroom and outside on a practice course and in actual traffic on local roads. This class is for beginners, intermediate, and advanced cyclists who want to “bike smarter.”

LCI Seminar in Williamsburg

Date: June 2-4

BikeWalk Williamsburg and the City of Williamsburg is hosting a League of American Bicyclists "League Certified Instructor" (LCI) Training Seminar the first weekend in June. Currently, there are 61 LCIs in Virginia. We need additional instructors to expand educational outreach to schools, municipalities, colleges and universities. Completion of Smart Cycling or Traffic Skills 101 is a pre-requisite for the LCI Seminar.
