W&M honored with Excellence Award for fundraising
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) names William & Mary as an exceptional university for overall fundraising performance.
The College of William & Mary was recently recognized for having one of the nation's best fundraising programs among public colleges and universities and is the recipient of the 2010 CASE-WealthEngine Award for Educational Excellence. The award recognizes superior fundraising programs across the country and is a component of CASE's Circle of Excellence program.
"Private philanthropy has become flatly essential to William & Mary's continued progress," said President Taylor Reveley. "Thus, this award is truly satisfying. It means we are letting our alumni and friends know how important their gifts are. And it speaks to the increasingly effective organization and hard work of our development staff and volunteers."
The College was selected to receive an Overall Performance award based on the past three years of fundraising activity. For fiscal year 2007 the College raised $49.3 million; fiscal 2008, $35.3 million; and fiscal 2009, $50.8 million. Additionally, judges considered the pattern of growth in total support, the pattern of growth in each program area, and the total of support in relation to the alumni base of the institution.
"This award is a broad-based recognition of the dedication of the College's supporters - alumni and friends," said Sean Pieri, vice president for University Development. "Any success we have is a direct result of their loyalty to William & Mary."
Previous awards recipients include the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the University of California at Los Angeles.
