Theatre at William and Mary is a liberal arts experience that emphasizes a vital breadth of knowledge. Students also find that courses in art, dance, music, psychology, and literature prove invaluable for a well-educated theatre artist and prepare them for the broader challenges of life.
We offer courses in all aspects of theatre, providing a broad range of subjects as well as depth in specialized areas. Performance classes have fewer than twenty students and a design class with six students is not unusual. All theatre majors take basic courses in acting, play production, design, theatre history, dramatic literature, and directing. But our students demand more than basics, and at William and Mary theatre courses, independent studies, and practicum assignments are carefully designed to develop advanced skills.
