Borish Prize

The Dr. Murray Eugene Borish prize is presented annually to the senior English major judged most informed and capable in English studies as evidenced by distinction in scholarship and excellence in writing.

The prize was bequeathed by Merwin W. Braderman in memory of Dr. Murray Eugene Borish [pdf]. Dr. Borish, author of A Mapbook of English Literature (Holt, 1936), was for seven years a member of the English Department. He requested a leave of absence to accept a commission in the United States Army in December, 1942 and was made a Second Lieutenant. The War Department reported him missing in January, 1943 after his convoy to North Africa was torpedoed.
