Ph.D. Candidate Claudia Escue Publishes an Article in the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology

Congratulations to 4th year Ph.D. candidate Claudia Escue whose work on taro farming in Rurutu, French Polynesia, has been published in an article co-authored with Professor Jennifer Kahn in the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology (Volume 70, June 2023). Claudia and Professor Kahn's article is entitled Inter-Island production variability and Pre-Contact carrying capacity estimates: A geospatial analysis of taro farming in Rurutu, (Austral Islands, French Polynesia) and focuses on the geospatial study of pondfield irrigation systems in order to estimate population densities, ability to generate surplus, and other socio-political dynamics manifest in the island's past.
