Federal Work-Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS) provides jobs for students with financial need (based on the FAFSA), allowing them to earn money to help pay expenses incurred while in school. Federal Work-Study must be offered as part of your financial aid package to qualify, if you did not receive FWS as part of your aid package, you do not have this option.

Accepting FWS

If you have been offered FWS and are interested in working, please accept the funding in the Banner Self-Service portal. We will contact you by email in early August with further information on how to utilize your FWS opportunity.

Finding a Job on Campus

Students are not automatically placed in a work position and should conduct their own job searches to identify available positions that best fit their interests and skills.

Priority is given to FWS recipients in filling posted on-campus positions and some departments limit their hiring to Federal Work-Study recipients only. New students will receive a certificate confirming FWS eligibility and should present this certificate to the hiring department as part of the application process.

Receiving Funds

A student’s annual earnings limit is listed in the financial aid package. Although your aid offer indicates a dollar limit, the maximum that you earn is dependent upon the department's budget and some departments may permit students to work in excess of that limit.

FWS funds are earned throughout the academic year and are paid via payroll, not directly to your student bill.

Eligibility

Eligibility for FWS is determined on an annual basis and requires annual submission of the FAFSA.
