Tough, exciting non-conference slate for men's basketball

Rewarded with a National Invitation Tournament appearance last season, the William & Mary men’s basketball team will face a challenging non-conference schedule in 2010-11.

North Carolina’s Tar Heels, who eliminated the Tribe in opening NIT action last spring, is on coach Tony Shaver’s regular-season schedule. So is the University of Virginia, marking the second consecutive year the College has faced two Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.

Both are on the road, as are contests with Richmond, and at Syracuse for the Legends Classic. As part of that tournament, W&M will host a sub-regional game over the Thanksgiving holiday at Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe is coming off one of the best seasons in school history, with just its second NIT berth ever. The College finished 22-11 overall, 12-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Tribe’s 22 wins were the third-most in school history and the most in 60 years. W&M also set a school record and ranked ninth nationally with 10 road victories.
