Less than a week after visiting the College to get a first-hand look at the future of integrated sciences, Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine once again paid tribute to William and Mary – this time on Comedy Central’s  nationally broadcast “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”

Appearing on the show Tuesday night to discuss the Democratic National Convention and his role in Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, Kaine reminded one of William and Mary’s most famous alumni of his connection to the Commonwealth and the College. Stewart, host of the popular show that uses satire and comedy to poke fun at national news and politics, is a 1984 graduate of the College.

Stewart asked Kaine  if he would have a role in the administration if Obama beat Republican Party candidate Sen. John McCain in November’s presidential election.

“I’ve got a gig until a year after the administration starts,” Kaine told Stewart. “Governor of Virginia -- a one-term governor … as you know (as) a William and Mary grad. I’m in the seat in Virginia until January 2010.”

Stewart is well-known among Tribe faithful. The nationally known comedian and actor graduated from William and Mary with an undergraduate degree in psychology. He has returned to his alma mater several times in recent years, including in 2004 when he gave the Commencement Address.

The governor is also well-known on campus. Kaine visited William and Mary on Aug. 20 to tour the recently completed first phase of the College’s  Integrated Science Center.
