Tribe Alert: Winter Weather Advisory

Winter Weather Advisory/Ice Storm

February 12, 2021, 5:35 pm

Dear William & Mary Community -

The Williamsburg area remains under a Winter Weather Advisory. The National Weather Service is forecasting additional sleet and freezing rain this evening into Sunday and refreezing in areas where melting and slush have occurred. Pathways will remain slick and roadways could be dangerous.

Essential personnel should remain in contact their supervisors.

Facilities Management personnel continue to clear and sand parking lots and walkways. Temperatures are not expected to support melting of ice until midday on Sunday. Please continue to use caution, including using the cleared and treated walkways and avoiding travel if possible. Again, due to the potential for sleet and ice, we may have downed branches and the possibility for power outages. If you see an area that is a safety concern please contact WMPD dispatch at 757.221.4596.

Should any additional changes to the university’s schedule be necessary, those would be communicated through the university's mass notification system or via the resource links provided below. Local media, as well as the W&M News Facebook and Twitter pages - http://www.facebook.com/wmnews and http://www.twitter.com/WMNews - will also be sources for updates.

Winter Weather/Offices Closed

February 11, 2021, 5:57 pm

Dear William & Mary Community -

A wintry mix of precipitation is expected in our area and across Virginia beginning tonight into the weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Williamsburg area beginning at 8 p.m. until noon Friday.

Because most classes are not in session for a “spring break day,” out of an abundance of caution administrative offices will be closed on Feb. 12 and those employees – whether working in-person or remotely – will not be required to work. Essential personnel should contact their supervisor for hours. Law School classes scheduled for Friday will be held remotely. EMBA students will hear directly from the Mason School of Business regarding adjustments to their weekend schedule. Administrative and academic buildings will be locked. Some facilities will remain open as shown below.

The Emergency Management Team is preparing for some accumulation of snow and ice Thursday night into Friday morning. Roadways and walkways will be slick. Please use caution. These conditions are likely to persist into the weekend.

Facilities Management personnel are prepared to begin clearing, sanding and/or de-icing pathways and parking lots on campus as soon as it is safe to do so. Please use the cleared and treated pathways. Due to the potential for sleet and ice, we may have downed branches and the possibility for power outages. If you see an area that is a safety concern please contact WMPD dispatch at 757.221.4596.

Should any additional changes to the university’s schedule be necessary, those would be communicated through the university's mass notification system or via the resource links provided below.
