A statement of vision, mission and values for the 21st century
W&M President Katherine A. Rowe sent the following message to the university community Nov. 25, 2019. - Ed.
Dear William & Mary Community,
I am delighted to share that the Board of Visitors affirmed William & Mary’s vision, mission and values statement on Friday. These three statements will anchor and guide our strategy in the decades ahead.
I hope you share my appreciation for the work of two dedicated drafting groups, led by Dr. Ginger Ambler and Dr. Chon Glover, who crafted language and synthesized feedback over the past six months. Thanks to all in our W&M community who contributed your thoughts to help clarify, refine and strengthen their work. My regular post-Board meeting reflection plays back the process through which we arrived at this final statement. As we shift to Phases II and III of strategic planning, we will use this tripartite statement as a compass to guide our thinking about how to advance what we value most.
Let me close with gratitude. As we look forward to the Thanksgiving holiday, I am thankful for the gift of this year of exploration and creative thinking together, as we chart a brilliant future for William & Mary. I wish you all joyful gatherings, surrounded by family and friends.
