PhD Student Graham Callaway & Audrey Horning Assist Community Group in Preserving Historic Cabin

Parker-Sydnor CabinPhD student Graham Callaway and faculty member Audrey Horning have been privileged to work as Advisors for Literacy InterActives, a non-profit community group who have been working hard to restore a historic log house in Mecklenburg County. The group has been working to preserve, restore, and develop the Parker-Sydnor Cabin, with the goal of creating a community center and museum.Phase I Survey at Parker-Sydnor Property Built in the 1880s on former plantation land purchased by a newly emancipated family in the first decades of freedom, the cabin was still occupied by descendants until the 1970s. Graham and Audrey have been contributing to these efforts by attending community workdays and events, writing portions of grant applications, and leading a Phase I archaeological survey of the property along with William & Mary undergraduate students.
