Study of the classics is the epitome of the liberal arts experience: you get the joy of pursuing knowledge for its own sake, while developing skills that can be applied to all fields of endeavor.
The Department of Classical Studies is one of the original departments at William & Mary. We offer a curriculum that includes
- courses in ancient languages (Greek, Latin, and Hebrew) and
- study of the culture, history, and archaeology of ancient Mediterranean civilizations
- opportunities for study abroad in Italy and Greece.
Majors in Classical Studies may choose from four different concentrations (Greek, Latin, Classical Civilization and Classical Archaeology). We also offer a minor and a one-year post-baccalaureate program.
