Community of Scholars Faculty Grants

Community of Scholars Faculty Grants are temporarily paused as a result of the COVID-19. Please check back for updates.

Types of Funding
  • Co-Curricular Activities
Mini-grants up to $500 are available to faculty and staff to encourage intellectual interaction with students outside the classroom. Possible uses for this funding include book or film discussion groups; or trips to lectures, museums, performances, laboratories, or field sites, including associated travel and/or meal expenses.

While this funding may be used for extra-curricular activities associated with courses, it is not intended as a subsidy for required assignments or course projects. The primary goal is to stimulate and subsidize intellectual exchange between faculty/staff and students in extra-curricular or co-curricular settings.

  • Visiting Speakers
Grants up to $1,000 are available to support lectures, poetry readings, debates, performances of leading scholars and artists in a variety of disciplines and professions.
Expenses

If approved, the home department or program will process invoices, travel, and other accounting documents related to this funding. The Charles Center will reimburse the department or program up to the amount of the award. All expenses must comply with State regulations and do not include stipends and/or wages.

Application Timeline

Funding applications are accepted through November for the fall semester and March for the spring. No applications will be reviewed during the summer. Applications will be reviewed twice a month during the academic semester. You will be notified by email about the decision. Faculty may apply once per semester.

How to Apply

Faculty and staff are eligible to submit proposals. The applicant(s) must take part in the funded activity. Proposals are reviewed twice monthly during the academic semesters. We intend to start accepting applications in Fall of 2021.
