Bio

Jeremy P. Martin Ph.D. '12, M.B.A. '17 was named vice president for strategy & innovation at William & Mary in December 2022. In this role, he oversees W&M's undergraduate admission, marketing and communications offices while driving the university's enterprise development strategy and management.

Alongside the provost/chief academic officer, Martin co-chaired the university's strategic planning process that resulted in Vision 2026, a comprehensive framework built upon three goals (Expand our Reach, Educate for Impact and Evolve to Excel) and highlighting four cross-cutting initiatives (Data, Water, Careers and Democracy). He was previously integral to the university's business innovation initiative, which exceeded its $5 million target for baseline cost reduction from the university's budget by FY2020.

In 2020, Martin served as interim director of athletics, providing strong leadership during a time of transition and pandemic. During that time, he guided a gender equity review and planning process as well as a financial review. While increasing stability for all 23 varsity sport programs, Martin oversaw a significant increase in donors and funds raised. He was instrumental in planning and launching the $55 million All In fundraising campaign for athletics.

Martin was a longtime member of the senior staff to William & Mary's president before assuming his current role. From 2012-2017, he served as assistant to the president and provost, followed by associate provost and assistant to the president from 2017-2019. He became chief of staff in 2019.

In addition to his administrative duties, Martin has taught several courses related to higher education finance and data analysis at the university and has been a member of multiple dissertation committees in its School of Education. He holds a Ph.D. and M.B.A. from William & Mary. He earned a B.S. magna cum laude from Houghton University and holds a M.S. from Georgia State University.
