On Monday, January 19, 2009 students and staff from the College of William and Mary participated in a Habitat for Humanity house build in Petersburg, Virginia for the National Day of Service. In collaboration with Tri-Cities Habitat for Humanity, this event was coordinated by the College of William and Mary's Office of Student Volunteer Services and the Phoenix Project. Also on hand for the day to help build was Governor Tim Kaine and his family. This event is one of the many ways the College of William and Mary is involved with the City of Petersburg in civic engagement and economic development. According to Leonard Sledge, Assistant Director of Economic Development for William and Mary, "This event is an awesome way to serve a Petersburg family and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the National Day of Service."
