Minoring in Africana Studies

The minor in Africana Studies is very similar to the major. Minors do not fulfill the language or capstone requirements, and need fewer total credit hours than majors. Students must:

  • Take a gateway course (either AFST 150 or AFST 205, Introduction to Africana Studies),
  • Take a methods course (AFST 399, Africana Studies Methodologies), and
  • Choose a regional introductory course.

Specific requirements for the minor are listed in the Undergraduate Catalog. We strongly suggest, though it is not required, that you choose a faculty advisor for your Africana Studies minor. An advisor can help you select courses and guide you to other resources that will help you meet your goals.
