Marine Science Minor

The 2004 U. S. Ocean Commission Report highlights the importance of high-quality marine science education in cultivating a "broad public stewardship ethic" and for preparing "a new generation of leaders on ocean issues."  Since 1940, William and Mary's School of Marine Science (SMS) at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) has offered graduate students exceptional opportunities in marine science education.  In 2010, SMS/VIMS entered a partnership with Arts & Sciences (A&S) to offer undergraduates the opportunity to minor in marine science.

The undergraduate minor in Marine Science provides interested students a coherent experience in this interdisciplinary subject.  A total of 18 credit hours are required, which include two required core courses, three Marine Science Fundamentals courses, plus six additional elective hours. Courses are held at both the Williamsburg campus of W&M as well as SMS/VIMS Gloucester Point and field locations.
