Music
We are a department of scholars, composers, and performers, and offer a strong and exciting program to undergraduate liberal arts students. We teach music through its interrelated subdisciplines (music history, ethnomusicology, music theory, composition, and performance) within the context of a liberal arts curriculum.
Our curriculum is grounded in classical music, world musics, and a full complement of American music (jazz, music and film, popular music, musical theatre, art music). The department collectively values the contributions of all musical cultures and styles, and in any given semester offers courses that reflect this diversity.

W&M Jazz Combo Provide Music for the Governor
W&M Jazz Combo members Seth Dalby and Michael Cammarata with faculty member Harris Simon performed for Governor McDonnell and the Virginia General Assembly.Rasmussen featured on 'With Good Reason'
Associate Professor of Ethno- musicology Anne Rasmussen will be featured in a segment of the radio program "With Good Reason" about Christmas music. The segment began airing Dec. 19 and will continue to run through Dec. 24.
Global Film and Music Festival
February 18 - February 21
The College of William and Mary will hold the third annual Global Film Festival at the Kimball Theater February 18-21, 2010. In association with the event, there will be visiting international lecturers and performers. All events are free and open to the public, however tickets are required for Kimball Theater events, available at the box office or by calling 1-800-HISTORY.

Miriam Foltz Senior Organ and Trumpet Recital
February 27, 2:00 PM
Miriam Foltz is a student of Robert Ransom and Tom Marshall. The program includes organ pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn, and Buxtehude and trumpet works by Hummel, Hindemith, and Vivaldi. The William & Mary Brass Quintet will also be performing as part of the recital. Accompanists are Simon Sun and Professor Tom Marshall.
