Music
We are a department of scholars, composers, and performers, and offer a strong and exciting program to undergraduate liberal arts students. We teach music through its interrelated subdisciplines (music history, ethnomusicology, music theory, composition, and performance) within the context of a liberal arts curriculum.
Our curriculum is grounded in classical music, world musics, and a full complement of American music (jazz, music and film, popular music, musical theatre, art music). The department collectively values the contributions of all musical cultures and styles, and in any given semester offers courses that reflect this diversity.

Musicologist Preston is National Humanities Center Fellow
Katherine Preston, the David N. & Margaret C. Bottoms Professor of Music at William & Mary, is one of 33 scholars from all over the world to be selected as a National Humanities Center Fellow for 2009-10. Student Builds Contrabass Recorder
Callaway spent most of his summer building a contrabass recorder, with the finished product being only slightly shorter than he is. His creation will make its public debut during the William & Mary Early Music Ensemble's fall concert on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Wren Great Hall. Admission is free.
W&M Wind Symphony Thanksgiving Gala

The Wind Symphony will be hosting a Thanksgiving Gala featuring small ensemble and solo performances by some of the Wind Symphony musicians. A light reception in Ewell Lobby will follow the performance. All tickets are $4, but guests will receive at $2 discount if they bring a donation of a canned food item.
