The Department of Kinesiology & Health Sciences is committed to excellence in research and teaching in human movement and health science, from basic science research laboratories to clinical and on-the-field experiences, and to the development of informed scholars capable of integrating the many factors affecting overall well-being. The faculty of outstanding teachers and scholars collaborates with students to foster critical thinking, professional skills, and intellectual independence, and actively promotes opportunities for students to conduct original research and gain practical experience through hands-on laboratories and internships. The faculty values collegiality and the pursuit of academic connections across disciplines, and faculty members place a priority on being accessible to students and colleagues as a means of fostering academic goals. The department creates a supportive and nurturing environment for faculty and student development and encourages their participation in professional societies as well as departmental and college governance.
The department offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Science degree with multiple paths for concentrations in health sciences, pre-medicine, and public health. The department is run by 9 academic faculty members and 3 activity faculty members supported by 2 staff members, in addition nearly one hundred of undergraduate majors.
