Background
Paul Mapp received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2001. He specializes in the history of early modern North America and the Atlantic world, and is particularly interested in exploration, geographic thought, and imperial competition. He is currently transforming his dissertation, "European Geographic Ignorance and North American Imperial Rivalry: The Role of the Uncharted American West in International Affairs, 1713-1763," into a book to be published by the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture.
