Gul Ozyegin2018 Faculty Governance Award
Citation for Gul Ozyegin

Holding joint appointments in the Department of Sociology and the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSWS) Program, Professor Ozyegin participates broadly in the governance of both, chairing and serving on personnel and curriculum committees, faculty search committees, and tenure committees.

As director of GSWS (2011-14), she oversaw a number of enhancements to the program. In 2011 she helped to conduct a study of the program to better define the collective vision of affiliated faculty and students, leading to a more broadly interdisciplinary and inclusive curriculum, a name change, and increased campus visibility and collaboration among students and nonacademic services and organizations. She has also contributed substantively to the governance of the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Program.

At the College-wide level she has served on a number of committees, including the Faculty Assembly (2011-14, 2015-16) and its Executive Committee (2012-13, 2015-16), Faculty Affairs Committee (2011-14, 2015-16), and Academic Affairs Committee (2011-14); and the Faculty Research Committee (2015-18). Within Arts & Sciences she has served on the Faculty Affairs Committee (2011-14); Educational Policy Committee (2010-11, 2007-09); and Dean's Search Committee (2011-12). In 2010 she served as a member of the Fulbright Selection Committee, and in 2016 she directed the Summer Program in Goa, India.

For her longstanding commitment to governance at every level and multiple academic disciplines, it is fitting that Professor Ozyegin be recognized with the Arts & Sciences 2018 Faculty Governance Award.
