On October 4th, the Chengdu Textile College & Sichuan Opera of China came to Williamsburg and displayed many different aspects of the traditional culture of Sichuan province in front of an enthusiastic full house.
On September 27th, Jie Hou performed six pieces on the dizi and xiao in the 2019 Confucius Institute Day Dizi Flute Solo Concert. Also featured was Jiayong Lu, who played a classical piece on the guzheng. This was a fantastic taste of Chinese traditional music!
The CIUS Center recently recognized Michael Briggs and Carly O'Connell as two of the ten winners of the "My Confucius Institute Story" Essay Contest. As a result, this September they will receive the 2019 People-to-People Award at the CIUS Center National Honors Gala!

Bonnie Glaser, Senior Adviser for Asia and Director of the China Power Project at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, delivered this year's WMCI Distinguished Scholar lecture, entitled "US-China Relations at a Strategic Crossroads." In her lecture, Glaser detailed the complex history, present state, and future possibilities for US-China relations.
